History & Lore

Andromalius is the seventy-second and final spirit listed in the Goetia, holding the rank of Earl and commanding thirty-six legions of spirits. Despite being last in the catalog, he is one of the most frequently invoked Goetic spirits in modern practice due to his specialization in justice, theft recovery, and revealing deception. The 'Lemegeton' describes him appearing as a man holding a great serpent—the serpent symbolizing wisdom, detection, and the ability to track prey. His position as the final spirit may be symbolically appropriate, as he deals with endings—catching thieves, recovering what was lost, and bringing matters to conclusion. Andromalius's primary powers center on justice and truth: he brings back both thieves and stolen goods, discovers all wickedness and dishonest dealings, reveals hidden treasure and fraudulent schemes, and punishes thieves and wicked people who have committed crimes. This makes him invaluable for victims of theft, fraud, or deception. The grimoires emphasize that Andromalius not only reveals who committed crimes but actively works to bring them to justice and return stolen property. Modern practitioners invoke Andromalius extensively for recovering stolen items, identifying thieves and con artists, uncovering fraud and embezzlement, exposing dishonest business partners, retrieving money owed, finding evidence of wrongdoing, and ensuring justice is served. Reports describe Andromalius as relentless in pursuit of thieves and remarkably effective at recovering lost property, sometimes through dreams revealing where stolen items are hidden or who took them.
