Gusion (also Gusoin, Gusoyn) is the eleventh spirit of the Goetia, a Duke commanding forty legions. The 'Lemegeton' describes him appearing as a xenophilus or cynocephalus—a baboon-like creature or dog-headed humanoid from medieval bestiaries. These creatures were associated in medieval thought with ancient Egypt (where baboons were sacred to Thoth, god of wisdom) and with boundary-crossing between human and animal. Gusion reveals all things past, present, and future without error, making him a powerful spirit for divination and prophecy. He reconciles friendships and quarrels, particularly valuable for healing broken relationships or mediating disputes. Significantly, Gusion grants honor, dignity, and preferment—elevating one's social station and reputation. This combination of prophetic knowledge and social elevation makes him popular for career advancement, reputation building, and strategic planning. Some grimoires associate him with answering questions of philosophy and theology.
