Moloch was a deity worshiped in ancient Canaan and Phoenicia, infamously associated with child sacrifice. In later Jewish and Christian demonology, Moloch became demonized as a horrific demon demanding the sacrifice of children through fire. The name may derive from 'melek' meaning king.
