Prometheus is the Titan of forethought who, in Greek myth, stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, defying Zeus to grant mortals the spark of knowledge, craft, and civilization. For this rebellion he was chained to a rock where an eagle devoured his ever-regenerating liver. In left-hand-path and esoteric thought he stands as the archetypal Lightbringer, a Promethean parallel to Lucifer, who prized the elevation of humankind above obedience to a jealous higher power.
